We worked through a few of the pre-algebra lessons that she had for this course. We finished the integer arithmetic and got to some of the earlier lessons on applying the order of operations. The student had some problems with addition problems that put a negative number first so I recommended that she rewrite those as subtraction problems when possible. I explained a few shortcuts on the arithmetic and helped show how to do some of the math by hand. Most of this material seemed to make sense to her, which is a great sign since these fundamentals will be important when she moves on to the later lessons in this course.

We worked through another 32-question practice test today; it's very similar to the one we worked through in our prior session. We reviewed how to break arithmetic problems down into bite-size chunks that can be done in one's head. He finished the test faster today than on Tuesday, mostly because we were conscious of the time and spent less time working on strategies and tactics. The student had lost all of his materials for the class, and this was a large distraction for him. His having *not* memorized the multiplication tables is perhaps his greatest obstacle. I recommend drilling exercises for this, as all of algebra is based on being able to perform arithmetic operations with an absolute minimum of mistakes.

We worked through concepts that will be covered and talked about the missed problems on the Test. The student made a 92 on the test, which she was very happy about. The next concepts will be graphing and solving linear equations for slope and y-intercept. Also moving into rate of change. We worked through sample problems to cover the complete weeks assignments. The student did well in grasping the concepts.

We worked through her math worksheets on absolute values in expressions and inequalities. The student understands the material, but has some uncertainty when solving for a variable within the absolute values. Working through her worksheets, she has increased her confidence in working through those problems. She has continued to keep high scores on her quizzes in class.

We worked through the student's Algebra homework which focused on Order of Operations and evaluating expressions. He has a solid understanding of the processes, but I'd like to continue working through his Algebra homework with him to point out and focus on relearning and covering small gaps in understanding. Otherwise, great session!

We worked to finish up the rest of the homework problems that were assigned for this week so that we can spend the entire next session on review for the upcoming test. The student is struggling a bit with this session and his confidence is starting to wane a bit. I try to remind him that this is one of the hardest topics he'll cover this semester and that seems to help him some. But he is starting to understand what is going on, he's just going to have to put in some decent practice time in. The addition and subtraction of rational expressions is what has been the hardest, and we will focus on that the most when we meet the next time.
