Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Finished reviewing for final in a couple days. Will meet again in 2 weeks time and start weekly sessions to keep her caught up."
"The student and I reviewed her science fair project, working through a materials list and a list of procedures for completing the experiment."
"The student had two quizzes on Tuesday. She needed help naming compounds and understanding the properties of ionic solids."
"We went over molecular orbital theory and effusion law together. The student had a good understanding of molecular orbital theory but had difficulty calculating the effusion rate problem. We will work on this next session!"
"We went over more forces in two dimensions. We looked at her worksheet, which covered how to translate the free body diagrams into equations and how to express the sum of all the forces. We used vector relations to break the forces into x and y components and to take the sums in both directions. In all of her problems, there was either no motion, or a motion with a constant velocity, so the net forces were zero. We did some extra problems in which the net force would not equal zero, but would equal mass times acceleration. We also did some extra inclined planes problems, finding the necessary frictional force to keep a mass of sliding down an inclined plane and finding the acceleration of a mass sliding down an inclined plane."
"We went over more mechanics material, mostly reviewing problems we had already gone over. We noted again that when slipping off of a surface, the surface no longer provides a normal force, and we went over several conservation of momentum problems. We noted that if you have a rate of change, you can integrate to get the original function."
