Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered verbal reasoning (analogy/sentence completion) sections of the ISEE/SAT review book and started the reading comprehension sections. We discussed word parts/how to guess meanings of words using word roots, etc. I will copy, scan, and email sections on word roots, basic arithmetic, and geometry and email them to his mother. He is doing will with vocabulary; his weakest area is math."
"The student and I: -- reviewed homework (correcting run-on sentences and finding percents); -- reworked questions he got incorrect; -- practiced finding percents; -- reviewed multiplication; and -- reviewed subtraction."
"We reviewed all of the student's math, Spanish, religion and vocabulary homework assignments. We also studied for the student's upcoming vocabulary test."
"During this session, we addressed challenges the student was facing in his honors Algebra 2 class. His teacher had provided answers for prior homework packets, but had not demonstrated the method used to arrive at the correct answer. Through the session, we worked through various problem in his final review packet and discovered the methods needed to correctly solve the problems the way the teacher wanted. By the end of the session, the student felt confident going into his Algebra 2 final. He is a great guy and was very easy to work with!"
"We covered two things primarily. First, we made a detailed day-by-day study plan to follow for all her subjects leading up to finals. Second, we went over the properties of water in preparation for her biology final. This is one area she was struggling in, and by the end of the session she was feeling a lot more confident and comfortable with the material."
"This was our third session, and I casually asked questions about the environment and what he knows about the drought issue since his Boy Scout troop frequently enjoys outdoor camping. His mother encouraged me to explore topics that are discussed in debates. I am trying to bait him into a topic that he gets excited about. I will prepare some ideas of debatable topics where he can research and eventually present his findings to a small group."
