Tacoma, WA LSAT tutoring
Today, I played a flash card game with the student that reviewed many sight words seen in books that she has previously read. Although the sight words were a bit challenging, she never at any point struggled and wanted to quit. Instead, she tried to sound out the words even though many of the sight words are not used to sound out. I assisted her by referring back to previous books she has seen the sight words from, she did extremely well once I did that. Now that she has gotten the concept of 1 to 1 correspondence, I have  introduced a new strategy which includes not pointing to each word but continuously reading on with her eyes. This helps so that she no longer reads like a robot but reads like how she would talk. We will continue this strategy until she has mastered it.

The student and I revisited problems from our last LG session that he had difficulty with setting up on his own; then we moved on to a new game. He was able to make connections between new rules and types of rules we'd seen in previous games more easily, and he had a big success with applying rules to a problem with new information with very little help from me.
