About Me

I've worked with children in grades K-12 in Mandarin, math, reading & writing and other subjects over twenty years. My motto is "I believe in my students!" My pedagogy centers on building confidence and developing sound work habits to reach the goal of skill transfer to school and life in general. A typical tutoring situation starts with my reviewing a student's past work, observing his/her thought processes as he/she works on an assignment. As I continue to assess the strengths and identify the areas of improvement I provide careful guidance so that he/she demonstrates the full competence in him/her independently. I've also been a Mandarin teacher and professional translator for a variety of clients, including classical musicians, diplomats, education researchers for the past three decades. To this end I've accumulated several publications over the years. In addition to the aforementioned work I was a computer instructor/network administrator and a senior Computer Technical Support Consultant for nine years. Since then I've done my best to stay on top of the fast-changing technology and help colleagues, friends and the elderly in meeting the challenges of the 21st century.
