Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student's teacher went over a very large amount of material in the last week, including Lewis structures, VSEPR theory, and phase changes, so we reviewed it for the first part of the session. Next, we went over some tricky word problems for her math class. Again, she seems to know the proper procedure for most questions. The session was very successful."
"We went over both Chemistry and Calc today. We talked about thermochemistry, with it's stoichiometry and specific equations associated with it. We then went on to discuss derivatives and how they relate to their parent graph. We made a great break through with this topic."
"We went over the different types of bonding and intermolecular forces. She had trouble distinguishing between the two. We then went over topics covering solubility and the different factors that affect solubility."
"Today we covered the topics encompassing chemical thermodynamics. In the beginning of the session, we identified a misunderstanding about equilibrium coefficient and reaction quotient when used in a thermodynamics problem. We resolved the issue through a few example problems. The student has a good understanding of the principles, especially the use of Hess's law, standard heats of reaction, and standard free energy changes. She is adept at using these values to find other values, such as equilibrium coefficients. The session went smoothly, and she has good insight into the mathematical errors she previously made."
"Today the student and I only went over practicing quadratic equations and solving problems for her test on Tuesday. We worked on many problems to help her out and I am sending her another practice exam so she can work on those problems."
"Mainly covered thermochemistry topics, specifically Gibbs free energy and Hess's law. The student demonstrated much greater understanding of these concepts after we went through practice problems. Also corrected recent thermochemistry quiz. Next topic covered by the class appears to be chemical equilibrium."
"Today, we covered Vant Hoff factors and concentrations of solutions. We did a little review on molality and molarity. We then moved onto a review sheet the students teacher gave him for his upcoming final; it covered all topics from the beginning of the year until now, the tests are cumulative."
"Continued to introduce topics. Continued nomenclature and began significant figures. He needs to work on his terminology. I feel that reviewing what we cover at least once between sessions would benefit him greatly."
"We reviewed a lab due the next day and troublesome questions from a previous midterm. We discussed/clarified lecture material from Chapter 5 (gases). We spoke at length about study and homework habits and established plans to change those habits to produce more-effective learning. We created a structure for our tutoring sessions moving forward."
"The focus was on light in preparation for a test at the end of the week. By the end of the lesson, she understood all of the variables and their units, as well as how to manipulate the two equations."
"The student is preparing for a retest on acid-base chemistry. Her teacher provided a practice test which she has been working through. At this session, we worked through several of the harder problems, and I showed her a few tricks to help her solve the problems quicker."
"Today we covered Control Systems again. The student had a question about how the algebra worked on moving a nodule forward within the laplacian space. Then we reworked some of the problems from last time."
