Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student's class has begun covering complex numbers; today, she and I practiced solving quadratic equations with complex answers, both by simple algebraic equation solving and by the quadratic formula. Thanks to my previously exposing the student to complex numbers, she had no trouble getting the hang of this material."
"The student and I went over his next two homework assignments, 7.4 exponential functions, 7.5 Logarithms. I had him work through problems after I showed him how to do brief examples. He grasped the material well during the session. I believe he should be able to finish it on his own. Overall, it was a very active session."
"We covered a paper full of problems involving factoring using different techniques. The student seemed to be unsure of which technique to use with certain equations, but after I wrote down some shortcuts and went over each process he was able to solve the later problems on his own"
"The student and I prepared for her quiz on graphing radical functions, which she is well versed by this point. She received a 100 on her homework for this section. We completed a review sheet provided by her teacher along with some practice problems within the outline I provided last week. Her two greatest challenges were identifying the domain and recognizing the minimum domain and range values correspond to the horizontal and vertical translation in the equation. She did a good job sticking to the sequence of solving the problems and sketching the graphs correctly. We were able to start Chapter 8 exponential functions. I explained the difference between exponential growth and decay and why these graphs looked different than the parabolic graphs she was introduced to last semester."
"The student needed my help with a difficult problem on modeling with related rates. The problem was not very difficult so we spent some time trying to decode what it really meant. In fact, the student already had the idea of how to approach when I arrived."
"The student finished writing her short biography on Pablo Sandoval. We then started drafting an original short story for her English class."
"This was part 2 of a review session for the student's midyear final. She mostly just asked me to go over a few questions. In particular, she had questions on the topics of implicit differentiation and some cases of integration by usubstitution.
Overall, she was in good shape, as there were not any concepts that she was not understanding at all."

"Student 1: We finished some makeup work that he needed to complete. He did very well on his midterm, scoring a 96.
Student 2: I taught her rates and ratios using various worksheets. She picked up on it very well and I left her with the worksheets for future practice."

"I worked with the student on working through calculating the surface and volume of geometric solids. Through this process we refreshed his skills in conceptualizing spaces and understanding how three dimensional shapes are translated onto two dimensional representations."
"We covered quadratic forms/equations and how to analyze/solve them. The student seems to have a pretty good intuition on how to do these sort of problems, but needed a refresher on a very important key tool in her problem solving box (completing the square). Spent time showing her the process and justification of completing the square along with a helpful mnemonic to memorize it. By the end of the session, not only was she able to complete the square quickly, but she was also confident in being able to identify when to use it and for which sort of problems. We ended the session with a quick review of radical equations and rational powers to make sure she does not forget the basics of what we covered in previous sessions. She still seems able and confident in these areas."
"The student and I reviewed for his upcoming exam on Friday, a quarterly semicumulative exam which covers all of the material of the previous quarter year. We reviewed ellipses, hyperbolas, and parabolas. I left him with several difficult practice problems as well to condition him to understand the material instead merely just the process."
"We worked on her online and hand in homework for College Algebra, math 112. We worked on solving quadratic equations in various methods. I think we will probably meet again next week if she has any questions."
