Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I mainly focused on his short essays tonight. We talked through several possible prompts, and I had him write out two additional options: one in full form and one as bullets. He asked questions about general essay structure, so we reviewed how to create a thesis, enhance it with body paragraph evidence, and effectively conclude. He said that he feels confident, so I hope he does well tomorrow!"
"The student had another great session on Wednesday night. He is starting to prepare for midterms and so most of his Global Studies and English work has started to slow down. We discussed test preparation during our session and also worked on a review for his Biology exam. Even with less structure, he has demonstrated the ability to remain focused and enthusiastic during our time together, which I really appreciate. I feel confident that he will prepare well for his exams and I look forward to seeing how he does."
"I brought an excerpt from "All Quiet on the Western Front" and had the student read it, stopping at the end of each paragraph to see if he could recap what was happening. He had the easiest time understanding the paragraphs which were more metaphoric. He said he likes what he read, so I recommended to the parents that they obtain a copy of the full book. I will find another reading passage for our next session, and then I will decide how far to have him read between sessions."
