Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over more Math problems today. The student did great in reading today. We will also went over the essay he wrote for me then (once he'd typed it up and emailed it to me)."
"Performed a full length math portion of the assessment (2 sections back to back). The student was able to complete both sections with plenty of time to spare. I assigned her to perform corrections of the second section."
"We reviewed some math first. She did pretty well but there were some she missed and realized her mistake when we reviewed them. Then she did an analogies practice and synonyms practice. She needed help with the synonyms but did quite well on analogies. She is improving but still needs to work on vocabulary building. I had her write all the missed words in a notebook and she is working on writing out all the definitions as well. Then she did a few more math problems to finish the practice set and lastly we did a word matching game to review words missed last session."
"We graded the sample SSAT test I gave the student last week (from SSAT test book) and went over her errors. She did pretty well on the math sections. We did uncover a few comprehension issues with percentages and Venn diagrams so we reviewed and practice that material. We also scored the Verbal section of this practice test and she did pretty well -- this particular test prep book has vocabulary that is, in places, more appropriate for high school than middle school students which I had warned her about in advance. I gave her another practice test from a different test prep source to do for next week."
"Worked on math concepts outlined in an SSAT prep book. Covered ratios, fractions, decimals, graphs, percentages, positive and negative numbers, sequences, algebra and geometry measurements."
"Competed practice drills 1 and 2 in the SSAT Math Section of the prep book. He got 87% on the first one and 85% on the second tougher exam. Also assigned two math pages for homework and 2 pages of vocabulary."
"We focused on going over all the sections because the student is taking her test this Saturday. Reviewed all of the test-taking strategies, i.e. process of elimination, guessing before you look at answer choices, reading carefully."
"We focused on the Verbal section of the SSAT, working mainly on non-Latin root vocabulary and increasing knowledge of vocabulary in general. The student's vocabulary and critical thinking skills in this regard have improved much over the sessions."
"Finished reviewing the math section from last session. Covered a verbal section and essay portion. The student's essay writing skills are incredibly strong."
"We did a verbal and reading diagnostic, broke down the SSAT test format and worked on prefixes. The students are to study the test format and work on memorizing 20 prefixes."
"We focused on math this session. We went through several tips and strategies, and then worked through some popular question types. We took a practice math session, evaluated answers, and then worked through (most of) the requested problems together."
"We worked on the SSAT reading section, especially the implicit questions like inferences and tone. We also discussed strategies for test anxiety and the mental fatigue that occurs when taking a really long test."
