Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Yesterday the student and I met for the first time. We got to know one another better, and I had a nice talk with her grandmother. We spent the first day reviewing the first habit of highly effective people, being proactive. She has it memorized. We discussed what it means to be proactive and what a paradigm is. She also did well on her science. Currently, her class is studying tropisms. She did a great job matching up the proper tropisms with the correct illustration and definition. Finally, we reviewed for an upcoming social studies quiz on explorers. I told her and her mother that she needs to review it more before taking the quiz. Overall, I feel the first session went well and I hope for many more to come!"
"Yesterday the student and I spent time reviewing her vocabulary words for a quiz, working through homework, and becoming familiar with the current events discussion format we will be using going forward."
"Yesterday was my first session with the student, so we did get acquainted and built a relationship. I enjoyed meeting him, and then we got down to business. I had the opportunity to help him review phonemes sounds and blend them with short vowel sounds. We got on the computer and worked on a website, and he was successfully able to tackle new words that rhymed. Additionally, we used pictures to associate match with different words. At the end, we printed up a worksheet for him to go over that dealt with the short u vowel words. I feel we had a good session and next time we will continue to work on the vowels and sight words with games and other methodology."
"Yesterday, I applied Pavlov's principles of negative and positive reinforcement to the student. It worked. He was attentive for the most part. We found a way to help him sound out words. We did part of his weekly vocabulary list. For those, we did handwriting and spelling exercises. We also read an entire book, which took about 15 minutes."
" During this session, we used an online spelling tool that encouraged the student to read, write, and practice his abc's. This app is helpful for him to hear the sounds and pronounce them correctly, and keeps him engaged. We additionally read from workbooks that focus on writing the alphabet and recognizing short sight words. This session was one of his best."
" We went over a few of the assignments from the student's summer school. We then worked on a writing activity that was of interest to her. I read a mentor text to her, filled out a graphic organizer with her, and completed the first of 5 paragraphs with her. She was fully engaged during the writing portion."
