"The student and I covered adding decimals. She really has a great understanding of this concept. We also worked on adding and subtracting fractions in her assessment test preparation book. She was able to compute the majority of the problems, but needs a little more support computing words problems that involved fractions. Since she will not take the assessment for another two weeks, I left her with a few more preparation problems to complete."
"Student 1 and I worked on math - writing expressions and solving them. We also reviewed reading comprehension to prepare him for the assessment test. He was very motivated during the session and I gave him test taking skills to execute for tomorrow. Student 2 and I went over math --- variable equations, interpreting chart data and substitution. I reminded him to take his time given that rushing acts as a catalyst for mistakes. He's doing well, nonetheless, and is certainly improving."
"Today was an impressive session for this student. She was open to the challenge of a lesson on division. We used the video on basic division as a teaching tool. She then selected 4 or 5 different online games that presented division problems. The combination of video lesson and a variety of online math games seemed to really support her internalizing the division process and connect it to multiplication. She used her multiplication tables to help her solve problems. Her self confidence improved markedly today as a result of her online game successes."
"We reviewed least common multiples and solving systems of linear equations. We then worked on coordinate graphing and transitioned to discussing the idea of equations as expressing relationships between variables, graphing linear equations, and figuring out how we can use equations to express the relationship between numbers in real life scenarios. The student picked up on everything pretty quickly, and she had a positive attitude. For homework, I asked her to finish the problems I assigned her last time that she didn't have time to finish. I also wrote her four equations and asked her to graph them."
"Today with the student we practiced improper fractions to mixed numbers and vice versa. We also went over multiplication of fractions and how to reduce fractions. Lastly, I introduced her to variables and how to add/sub/mult/div with variables in a problem. I will send her more worksheets to practice. She did great today."
"We worked through some difficult addition problems, but the division and word problems were easy for the student. He has begun to think differently when doing division: he is reverse- multiplying instead of slowly adding numbers in his head. He has everything memorized now and is only going to get faster and more confident."
