Summer Tutoring review by Theresa in Summit, IL
Most reviewed vocabulary words were basic nouns. The student was able to read all words and photos presented in isolation, however, was unable to match the word to the picture. Questions were asked about the picture. The student did not independently express responses to the questions, however would attempt to respond when choice options were presented. It is also noted that he has a tendency to choose the last answer presented. We practiced grouping the nouns together, such as, animals or insects. Additionally, we practiced writing the words from memory. He does attempt to sound out independently. Great session today!

Summer Tutoring review by MaryEileen in Summit, IL
She worked very hard this week. We began by reading a book assigned by her teacher and doing an accompanying worksheet. The book was divided into 2 sections: the same story, once as a narrative and once as a play. She and I read the play together, taking different parts. We then returned to the narrative version. She was able to read the story well and answer comprehension questions I posed to her. I brought along a fictional reading comprehension packet. The story was 2 pages long, with 10 comprehension questions. She read the story with confidence and answered all questions correctly. We read chapter 1 of Mr. Putter and Tabby together. Next, I had her work on a rhyming game/activity I brought along, and she did great. We finished up by making some words through the use of a-b-c cards.

Sunday, the student and I worked a lot on identifying letters. He has mastered letters A- P and can easily identify them. We started working on recognizing letters Q- T. This week we will focus on the last row of the alphabet, and then move to letter sounds. I will also give him an alphabet assessment on Wednesday, and play a few letter id games with him.
