Summer Tutoring review by Adriane in St. John, IN
The student and I started with Spanish review and a geography discussion, but the majority of our time today was focused on her math homework. She is working on basic geometry: intersections, angles, perimeter and area. Tonight we did several math problems calculating area and perimeter. She was dedicated to finding the correct answer most of the time.

Summer Tutoring review by Rob in St. John, IN
We spent the lesson focusing on developing vocabulary while reading a chapter book online and on reading comprehension strategies. The student struggled with using context clues to find out what words meant. The student was very motivated to read tonight and was open to discussion about the story (about Wonder Woman). We continued to focus on using context clues and chunking to figure out harder words. The student was able to use her smart phone to access myon.com and open the story on her own, so she is going to read the next chapter on her own before next week. She is progressing nicely with her reading comprehension and will get better with vocabulary development over time.

Summer Tutoring review by Brett in St. John, IN
The student and I worked on his math and reading homework. We began with math, which consisted of dividing decimals by whole numbers. The technique the student had to use involved using base ten blocks, bars and squares to divide numbers into equal groups. At first the student didn't understand the technique at all, but after working through it for a few minutes, the student was able to grasp how to use the base ten method. Drawing the blocks, bars and squares seemed to help the student understand exactly how division works on a more conceptual level, which I think helped him work through the problems. He did a great job with these problems and it didn't take him long at all to finish his math homework. Next, we worked on his reading and vocabulary. The student had to answer some reading comprehension questions about the last two chapters he had read. As I mentioned, the student had a few problems remembering some of the details his homework asked about, but we worked slowly through the text to piece the story together. Finally, we worked on the student's vocabulary homework. The student picked out four words whose definition he didn't know, looked up their definitions in the dictionary, and then wrote a sentence using the word. As he has in previous weeks, the student picked some real top-flight words, but he did an outstanding job of writing complex sentences. He's showing a great deal of improvement in both his math and vocabulary homework, but reading comprehension is something that I would like to devote more focused attention to.

Summer Tutoring review by Andrea in St. John, IN
The student and I reviewed each of his classes. We discussed his current grades (all 100s!) and upcoming assignments and projects (a draft essay in writing, project in business computing, a post in global connections, and reading in art & society). Based on our sessions, He has begun using OneNote to take notes in class. He also uses the Cornell note-taking method within OneNote. He showed me 2 examples of his notes in class that used the Cornell method in OneNote. He completed a self-assessment again today. Because of his progress over the last 4 weeks, it was time to re-evaluate his needs concerning study skills. We will start next week on memory strategies and test preparation.

Summer Tutoring review by Jeanna in St. John, IN
The student and I reviewed her social studies curriculum and talked about some key terms from the lesson. She seemed interested and engaged during this lesson. We talked a lot about what it meant to be a soldier during The Civil War. She told me that her grade in social studies has now increased.
