Summer Tutoring review by Martine in Schiller Park, IL
I helped the student to complete the home assignment on Dividing 2 and 3 digits by 1 digit; also on Dividing 3 digits. I reviewed tables 7, 8, & 12 and gave her a quiz since she was struggling with those tables. I went over the vocabulary words once again and dictated them to make sure she knew how to spell each one for the spelling test tomorrow; then I gave her similar words to match the meaning of each voc. word. As for social studies, we continued to read on the Declaration of Independence. To make sure she understood, I asked her questions throughout the reading.

Summer Tutoring review by Madeline in Schiller Park, IL
The student got a test back today. It consisted in finding changing fractions of tenths to hundredths, adding tenths and hundredths, and changing decimals to fractions. It was all pretty straightforward problems, she got them all correct but lost points for not showing her work. Since she was very confident with changing tenths to hundredths by multiplying the top and bottom by ten, I started working with her and altering other fractions. At first she seemed to only want to multiply by ten (2/3=20/30) or one hundred (2/3=200/300), but eventually she started to understand the concept behind it when I explained how if you do the same to the top and bottom you're really just multiplying by 1. I will have to review this consistently in order for her to feel really confident with it. We also talked about simplifying by dividing the top and bottom by the greatest common factor.

Summer Tutoring review by Jackson in Schiller Park, IL
We began by going over surface area and volume of rectangular shapes. I went over these concepts a little bit when we did prep for the ISEE, so it wasn't totally foreign to the student. Most of our session was dedicated to science though. We went over Anatomy, specifically the digestive and respiratory systems. I instructed her to continue to study the material over the weekend.

Summer Tutoring review by Frances in Schiller Park, IL
Today we reviewed the student's homework, specifically her reaction to encountering a skill she was unfamiliar or uncomfortable with executing on her own, determining the mean of a set of numbers. We devoted a good deal of time this session to discussing the problems and questions we can encounter while doing homework, and ways to resolve those issues on our own. We finished by assigning a number sense practice test and mean determination review that was to be turned in no later than tonight. She exceeded expectations by getting right down to her work and completing it before her sister's session was over, which is very encouraging to see from her!

Summer Tutoring review by Diana in Schiller Park, IL
Today we studied and practiced long-number division rules. Overall, the student did not struggle with one concept more than another; the more problems we practiced, the faster and more accurate he became. We treated each problem as a unique pattern, and he seemed to enjoy the challenge. We discussed certain patterns in similar numbers to help him solve each question a bit faster. I really enjoyed working with him today.

Summer Tutoring review by Sophia in Schiller Park, IL
Today we went on a walking tutoring session through the neighborhood. This is an excellent strategy for the student, who loves nature and outdoors. Short tasks that allow him to explore but also process and organize his work load for the day are excellent tools. Math: 30 minutes on project that is due Friday. Project topic is Algebraic Properties. The student has associative property. He has to create a poster board "selling" the characteristics of the property. 30 min on science- the teacher has provide him with a packet of the weeks assignments and objectives. He will work on completing the first two parts of the lab parts. Social studies: the student has to annotate an article. This is due tomorrow. English: the student is reading Brisingr. He will start on the book-report, that is 4-5 paragraph, on Monday. It is due next Friday
