Summer Tutoring review by Joseph in Provo, UT
The student and I went over the process of meiosis and the beginning of genetics. We also went over the French Revolution. We did a simple review for History and she understands the genetics concepts well. She struggled a bit on meiosis, but she understood it by the end of the session. She just needs to ensure that mitosis and meiosis are not confused.

Summer Tutoring review by Gabriella in Provo, UT
Today the student showed me her study logs from the previous week and they looked good. For this session, we focused on her science homework. I mainly watched her and observed that typing practice may be helpful for her. Being able to type quickly is an essential skill for high school and college success. Our session was productive, and she finished a large portion of her science homework for the weekend. At the end of our session, we made another study log for this upcoming week.

Summer Tutoring review by Julia in Provo, UT
The student and I worked on writing skills. I helped him develop, organize, and write a persuasive argument. He had some trouble developing clear, supporting details, but after a little bit of prompting, he wrote a nice persuasive essay. He and I worked more on identifying geometric shapes and differentiating between parallel and perpendicular lines. We also worked on writing a paragraph with a topic sentence, supporting details, and a conclusion.

Summer Tutoring review by Winnie in Provo, UT
Today we covered conceptual math word problems that dealt with multiple steps. These problems incorporated area, Pythagorean theorem, mean, and basic addition and subtraction. Some of the strategies used in this session was evaluating each sentence/ phrase in the word problem and fully grasping the question being asked. In addition to word problems we reviewed volume and surface area of prisms and cylinders, slope and y-intercept. We also covered math terminology: domain and range within a word problem. We made additional notecards to help the student remember the material that we learned. In future sessions, I plan on reviewing these concepts and learning additional material to help him prepare for the placement exam.

Summer Tutoring review by Cornelia in Provo, UT
We wanted to make sure the student earned all the points she possibly can. We went through her online account to pluck out and organize all critical missing grades. Then, we made a schedule for what assignments will be done by when. Then, we went into her folder and found any of the missing assignments for her to complete and turn in for Monday. Her job was to go to her teachers and ask for a specific time to redo certain assignments. She took a lot of initiative in this process: recommending a schedule, emailing her peers and teachers, cleaning out old papers to make room for new things! She did very great, and I love that she's using her new organizational tools and strategies.
