How can a tutor help you with summer tutoring?

As a parent, it is important that you give your grade school student academic stimulation over the summer break. Many children experience a learning loss over the summer, which can seriously inhibit their performance the following school year. By placing your child in a study program for as little as two to three hours a week you can greatly reduce the chances of them experiencing a learning deficit. In order to try to help your child for the coming school year, contact Varsity Tutors and ask how we can assist. Our educational directors can help you locate a Phoenix summer tutor who will work with your student throughout the break.

Varsity Tutors is able to help you find a personal tutor for your student who wants to see your child succeed. We can assist in connecting your student with a qualified instructor who can aid them as they practice science, math, and a number of other subjects. They can then benefit from meaningful explanations, helpful feedback, and tips that could improve their study habits and organizational skills. If you're interested in extra assistance because your child lagged at something during the school year, an expert summer tutor in Phoenix, AZ, can provide your student with the opportunity to go over concepts slowly and gradually until they feel ready to move on to new material.

Session Summaries by Summer Tutors

Summer Tutoring review by Joaquin in Phoenix, AZ
In this session we practiced reading new melodies. The student is getting more comfortable figuring out how to read basic melodies. We set up steps to make it easier. Writing finger numbers and looking for dynamics are the first two things we will be working with while trying to play new melodies. We continued with rhythms and learning to construct major and minor chords.

Today the students and I worked on rhyming, numbers, lowercase letters, and more. Our numbers activity involved them recognizing numbers 1 through 20 and being able to count up to 20. We also worked on matching uppercase letters with their corresponding lowercase letters. At the end of the session, student 1 and I worked on some complicated mazes in a workbook, and student 2 and I discussed the colors of the rainbow.

Summer Tutoring review by Lenora in Phoenix, AZ
This session focused on math and the student counting and recognizing the numbers 1-20. He did a great job. He is very good with numbers as well as hands on learning. I brought some toys that could be used to count with and this really helped him stay engaged in the learning process.

Summer Tutoring review by Melissa in Phoenix, AZ
The student and I had an excellent session. We began by going over some practice ERB grammar/mechanics exercises that she had completed at school. We reviewed various grammar/spelling rules (e.g. that words like spy, fry, cry, etc. drop y and have -ied in the past tense). We then did practice reading comprehension testing. We went over all the material and discussed any issues she had (e.g. knowing how to identify the main idea of a passage). We also reviewed some basic test-taking skills throughout the session (e.g. process of elimination, glancing at questions before reading passage to know what to look for as you read, etc.). Good session!

The student completed math problems from his summer math packet on polynomials and factoring. For English, I reviewed his essay on Jack London's "Big Fire."

The student and I discussed corticosteroids, which have several roles in the body. Glucocorticosteroids (cortisol) affect metabolism while mineral corticosteroids (aldosterone) affect water retention and different salt concentrations. If patients have low levels of these steroids, they must that a replacement therapy. Also, sometimes these steroids are used in immunosuppression. The next topic we discussed was lipid disorders. We looked at cholesterol-lowering therapies (HMG CoA reductase inhibitors (statins), niacin, bile salt sequestrants, fibric acid agents, and cholesterol absorption inhibitors) and discussed their mechanism of action and side effects.
