Summer Tutoring review by Caroline in Lake Station, IN
The student worked on his grammar and math homework. We discussed next week as many schools in his area are off for the entire week. His district is not one of them so we are meeting next Tuesday at 4:00 unless I hear otherwise. Everything seems to be going smoothly. His locker is still clean and his grades are good.

Summer Tutoring review by Joseph in Lake Station, IN
I helped the student with English, math, and civics homework as well as a brief Spanish review. First, we completed a choosing the right word exercise and synonyms/antonyms exercises from his vocabulary unit. This took approximately 30 minutes. Next, we reviewed Civil War terms and definitions which he then posted as instructed by his teacher. Next, he watched a video his math teacher uploaded concerning decimal operations. He then completed the assigned problems from a worksheet. Finally, we spent the last 30 minutes reviewing Spanish vocabulary for his quiz on Thursday. Tomorrow we will finish Spanish review, begin studying for the chapter 15/16 civics quiz on Monday, and start to prepare for final exam review.

I helped the student take more organized notes for his biology quiz and showed him how effective note-taking can ease the studying process. I also provided him with a virtual copy of his textbook so that he could use it for studying.

Summer Tutoring review by Harvey in Lake Station, IN
In today's session, the student and I concentrated on world history in preparation for tomorrow's test on the Renaissance and Reformation. We reviewed the worksheets he has completed on these subjects, as well as other class materials (textbook, PowerPoint, and online Crash Course video). The student was once again very receptive to the tutoring.

Summer Tutoring review by Steven in Lake Station, IN
On Tuesday we split our time between the student's algebra and his social studies. He has an algebra test on Friday and a social studies quiz on Thursday. He completed his homework for algebra on Tuesday. It tested him on polynomial division, polynomial factors and roots, and polynomial behavior, especially when dealing with quadratics. He needs to focus on polynomial long division, and its relationship with a polynomial's factors and roots, as on occasion long dividing polynomials can get messy. We spent some time following on his social studies. I quizzed him from a prep sheet he had for his social studies so he becomes comfortable with the topics which will appear on his quiz Thursday, including the era of the Jamestown and Plymouth settlements, early American conflicts with the Native Americans, religious, agricultural, or other conflicts or influences in the original colonies founded by Britain.

Summer Tutoring review by Winnie in Lake Station, IN
Our goal today was to prepare the student for his upcoming biology exam. We reviewed various organelles and their functions in prokaryotes and eukaryotes cells, types of microscopes, and comparing plant and animal cells. We worked on a review sheet and problems in the book. I focused on explaining concepts to him so he would have a mental image of each organelle and their function. I feel that he better understands the material when he has a visual or mnemonic to help him study. Lastly he also worked on his math homework.
