Summer Tutoring review by Lindsey in Fishers, IN
The student and I started with math. We reviewed place value and addition using base ten blocks. He is definitely catching on and doing much better with this. Then we moved on to reading. We worked on the sounds of the alphabet. The student was able to tell me all of the sounds. Then I pulled up words that were missing a short vowel sound (ex: "pig" missing the i). He was able to complete this as well. Then I pulled up consonant digraphs (th, wh, ch, sh) and had him pronounce each sound. He had a bit of difficulty with this, but we practiced a bit until he could pronounce the sounds. I then showed him pictures and had him match the digraph to the picture sound. He got most of these right. We opened a book and started sounding out the words, and I encouraged him to use his context clues (pictures, sounds, etc.). I left him with math homework.

Summer Tutoring review by Suzanne in Fishers, IN
We first did his math fluency homework. He rocked it with 56 wpm with one error. Then we read a book called "Anna's Eggs." I asked him to read it two more times this week. We did much recall work while reading, checking for understanding. Then we did flashcards. He was very excited to show me he had improved on his flashcards. He was quicker. We then worked on some worksheets for answering questions with graphs.

Summer Tutoring review by Margaret in Fishers, IN
The student did her homework in math, writing and reading. In math she worked on fractions - she appears to have a great grasp of the preliminary fractions concepts that she has started in school. She completed her worksheet on identifying equal parts quickly and was able to quickly and accurately name simple fractional representations (one-third, one-half, one-fourth). In reading, she has finished all of her Captain Underpants chapter books. We talked about picking new books for her book bag, and then read from two picture books - Creepy Carrots and Little Red Riding Hood. She identified both as books that are easy for her, so we focused on predicting and on gaining additional information from pictures, two important reading comprehension skills. In writing, her assignment was to come up with a juicy sentence for one of her words. She came up with a good sentence that showed her knowledge of the word's meaning, but was concerned that it wasn't long enough so we thought about ways to add detail to the sentence by asking questions like "how," "where" and "why."

Summer Tutoring review by Jared in Fishers, IN
The student and I focused on spelling, sentence making, and multiplication. He had some trouble creating good sentences for the words that he misspelled. I showed him how to use his spelling words properly in a sentence. We also worked on the mechanics of long multiplication, which he is starting to understand.

Summer Tutoring review by Danita in Fishers, IN
We began our session by reading for about 17 minutes from a book called "The Sword in the Stone". Next, she completed a very involved two-sided math worksheet that she had been assigned for homework. Lastly, we practiced spelling of 2-3 words, in similar fashion to the previous session, wherein I had the student practice the spelling of common words that I've observed that she oftentimes misspells. I assigned her the homework of writing 4-7 sentences about her day at school, and emphasized grammar and punctuation.
