How can a tutor help you with summer tutoring?

Your student probably really enjoys their summer break, but it can be a time in which students can lose the information they learned over the previous year. In fact, some portion of the fall school period is typically spent relearning material students have already been taught. Your child can put in time to retain the information they worked hard to learn in the previous school year with the help of a summer tutor in Fort Worth, Texas. The educational directors at Varsity Tutors can help you discover a great summer tutor for your student.

Students don't always enjoy spending time studying during the summer, but a great tutor can make it a fun experience. Only two to three hours of study are needed per week to prevent learning loss, and this learning doesn't have to be done traditionally. As there is not likely to be as much homework for your child to complete in the summer, their tutor may create a curriculum that keeps them on top of their school education, while also letting them have fun. Perhaps your student's Fort Worth summer tutor can take them outside for a game of horse, where they can spell vocabulary words or play other such fun learning games. The summer sessions can also be a great opportunity for your child to read challenging books that interest them, because they may not feel overwhelmed when they don't have other assignments stressing them out.

Session Summaries by Summer Tutors

Summer Tutoring review by Melissa in Dallas Fort Worth, TX
The student and I began with a speedy (multiplication and division) and then did a math word problem worksheet. We then did a worksheet on inferences, in which she had to draw conclusions and infer information after reading a paragraph. We then did an exercise where the student read a sentence and then had to write about what may happen next in the scenario. She and I then read a passage and completed questions (reading comprehension, focusing on figuring out "why" something happened or was a particular way). Finally, the student and I began a creative writing exercise about her dream summer vacation.

In this session we worked on building an introduction for the student's video project. We worked on how to Insert text and background. We also explored transitions in between scenes. On piano we used five finger patterns to start working on ideas for a melody that can be used in the video project. We talked about how to think of a melody depending on what we want to make people feel. The student tried different ideas if he wanted a scene sad or a scene happy and what melodies would work for each situation.

The student and I spoke about central nervous system drugs today. These include anti-psychotics, anti-depressants, therapy for bipolar disorder, stimulants, and anxiolytics (drugs that treat anxiety). I explained the mechanism of action for many of these drugs classes, metabolism, excretion, and other important highlights.

Summer Tutoring review by Jazmyn in Dallas Fort Worth, TX
Today, the student and I worked on her methods and result section of her paper. We analyzed her statistics on SPSS using regression, descriptives, and frequencies. Given that information, we were able to determine the percent of males and females; the percentage of each ethnicity in the sample; if there was a relationship between age, full-time status and GPA; the percent of students that were full time; the percent of students that were part time; the average GPA; the standard deviation from the GPA etc. Given all of this information, the student and I began a results section as well as her methods section.

Summer Tutoring review by Anna in Dallas Fort Worth, TX
The student and I have been working on getting her assignment completion speed and quality to where she wants it to be. She is extremely motivated and wants to perform very well on each task that she takes up. We are working on minimizing the amount of time she starts planning before she starts working. By going through assignments and simulating some in class strategies that will help her start more quickly, I hope that we can cut the amount of time she spends working per day down significantly. We are also working to reduce her stress level in general. We are focusing on reducing time spent organizing daily through reoccurring calendars and increasing time for sleep and relaxation.

Summer Tutoring review by James in Dallas Fort Worth, TX
I helped the student review for the final. It seemed that the review guide might have been intended for the graduate section, since it contained a good amount of information that was not a part of the lectures and homework. We reviewed the basic concepts of the additional material to be safe. He demonstrated proficiency on all major topics for the cumulative final. He should do quite well.
