How can a tutor help you with summer tutoring?

Try to maximize your child's productivity by calling the Varsity Tutors educational directors in Cranston to find an expert tutor in summer. Summer learning loss is a serious issue that starts as early as first grade, and over time widens the achievement gap in students who do and don't study over their summer vacation. Over time, students who don't study at all during summer can fall 2 to 3 years behind their peers in terms of learning. Your child doesn't have to spend all summer hitting the books, but spending 2 to 3 hours per week studying can prevent learning loss and strive to ensure that your child is ready to go when the school year starts up again.

It can take the first 6 weeks of the fall semester before students have relearned the material that they forgot due to inactivity over the summer. If your child stays sharp, they will be at a huge advantage in their classes. Our directors will match your child with the best summer tutor in Cranston, RI, who might help them to meet both academic and test score goals. A tutor will assess your child's current knowledge, checking particular for any weak points that deserve some extra attention. Then, the tutor will develop a personalized study plan that could help your child retain knowledge and even improve in some areas. Your child will start the next school year as a better student, and you will see the difference on their report card.

Session Summaries by Summer Tutors

Summer Tutoring review by Stephanie in Cranston, RI
During today's session, we worked on a reading comprehension activity for the student's Social Studies class. We also worked on a map activity for the same class. The Spanish assignments she completed included a word search and defining vocabulary worksheet. We also studied for her Bible quiz.

Summer Tutoring review by Thomas in Cranston, RI
We covered Math (word problems, multiplication), Japanese History, Science, vocabulary, schedule planning, and studying. Overall, Student 1 seems to have some trouble with reading comprehension, which was apparent in his science and social studies homework. He has the ability to understand the concepts; the problem just seems that he skims the chapter without retaining the information. In our session, I had him go back and do his reading more carefully before rushing through answering the questions, and he showed improvement. Student 2 has a strong understanding of his math and vocabulary concepts. He is very capable of completing his work. Both boys were very polite and willing to communicate with me, and I look forward to working with them both in the future!

Summer Tutoring review by Virginia in Cranston, RI
During this session we reviewed previously assigned assignments. The assignments were reading comprehension and vocabulary with a focus on main idea and details. In addition, the math assignment was on multiple mathematical concepts including problem solving, four mathematical operations, algebraic reasoning and measurement. We utilized classroom text (Double Fudge) to connect to reflective writing. Instruction was scaffolded to ensure comprehension of the text and application of that comprehension to writing.

Summer Tutoring review by Herman in Cranston, RI
The student and I worked primarily on ELA for the upcoming state test. He has made a great deal of improvement, but he still has trouble discussing the main theme. I think the time we've spent analyzing the texts for tone and bias has helped him become a better critical thinker. We finished with some social studies homework, and his ability to analyze texts from hundreds of years ago is a good sign that his vocabulary is improving a lot.

Summer Tutoring review by Lisa in Cranston, RI
The student and I discussed his testing issues and study habits. Most of the session was spent setting up organizational goals for him: writing assignments and tests every day in his agenda, organizing his notes into separate notebooks for each subject, setting aside a specific study time each day, using note cards to write down terms and concepts for subjects to make studying and retention easier. He is having a Spanish test tomorrow, so we spent the last half hour reviewing the verb conjugations for his exam. I also recommended that he use an online site to review math concepts that he doesn't understand.

The student worked on reading and math. Then he watched a video on earthquake and reviewed notes from school. He also worked on his reading log; dictating 3 sentences to summarize a chapter as I typed.
