"Today, we began by practicing his spelling words. He remembered "at" but needed a little help with "can". We spent some time working on how to properly write "c" and he started to improve. Next, we focused on "v". Yesterday, he wrote the letter upside down multiple times, but today he only wrote one "v" upside down and immediately recognized his mistake. The student also selected pictures of items that started with the letter "v" and did a good job distinguishing the sound. To finish, we completed a counting activity."
"We reviewed student's practice math prep test. She had failed to attempt several problems on the test, but correctly answered most of the ones she attempted. The most difficult problems for her seemed to be algebra word problems. I taught her a method for solving these types of problems, and she seems to be improving now."
"Today we worked on reading, inference, fact vs. opinion, and math. We discussed strategies he could use to help narrow down answer choices. We also discussed ways of locating the answer in a longer passage and re-reading a question looking for key words. Overall he is doing well. All of the sheets and books I have been using have been for fourth grade and above, that way the test will hopefully feel easier for him."
"The student and I completed a quiz for her Digital Photography class. This is the last meeting that we will have for this semester, and she will contact me in June to start up again. I will be leaving late July, and have agreed to tutor her until then."
"The student and I reviewed some of the sections that he had the most trouble with one more time in order to make sure he was 100% prepared for his ISEE the next day and the assessment test on Saturday. We focused first on the language section of the assessment test, which emphasizes the importance of correct spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and usage. He and I went over some important rules for English usage, and I highlighted them in his study book for him to look over in the next few days. We then looked at math, especially properties of triangles and circles, and also finding percent increases and decreases of numbers. I think he is in a position to do very well on both tests."
"Today we worked through a few specific problems supplied by the student's teacher - one having to do with the money multiplier and balanced bank account sheets. He has taken corporate accounting so this was sort of his comfort zone. We also did a few problems having to do with aggregate supply and demand."
