Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I began by discussing some of the potential examples she had thought of since our last session for essays on technology- or science-related prompts. From there, we moved on to a brief review of time-saving strategies for the math sections of the test, including both multiple-choice and grid-in question types, before proceeding to our main area of focus for the session: the critical reading sections. Here, we concentrated primarily on developing and practicing strategies to make paired passages and fiction excerpts easier for her to tackle, since these are the two passage types that she finds most challenging."
"We covered math and writing samples from the third practice SAT in the Official Guide. I left her with the essay prompt from the fourth practice SAT in the Official Guide and have no concerns from this session."
"This session we worked on the essay in-depth. The students wrote two practice essays (respecting the time limit) and then evaluated each other's and their own work based on what we discussed previously on how to write the essay."
"We first went over the student's homework on percents, which she did well on. I gave her a few more problems for extra practice. I then worked with her on proportion word problems. Finally we did some math multiple choice and finished with a reading passage."
"This was my last session with the student, and we focused on reviewing all of the ideas that we have talked about in the last few weeks. She has made remarkable strides with the reading comprehension portions of the test, expertly dispatches math and writing multiple choice sections and shows a clear understanding of the essay. Most of all, I think the confidence with which she now tackles the SAT will go a long way when she sits for the test in early May."
"This was our last session. We reviewed Latin roots, and focused heavily on math. We reviewed the student's questions, and worked together on one section. He is supposed to finish the last couple of questions we were unable to complete in the time of our session, and send me any he had trouble with. For his assessment test on Saturday, he should continue reviewing his Latin roots, and remember to take his time and read each math question carefully!"
"Today was our last session so we focused on completing a practice exam. The student did well, only missing a few of the hardest questions on each section. I advised her to continue taking practice exams leading up to the exam and working on her vocab."
"Reviewed score report for the student's last SAT and compared it with his latest practice test to discern certain patterns. Went over all three sections of the test."
"The student worked with me on molarity, reviewing her worksheets and going through the concept in anticipation of her assessment test. For the SAT we worked through a practice paragraph response section and a math multiple choice section."
"During today's session, the student and I focused on rates, ratios, proportions, and percents. Towards the end of the session, we discussed our goals and set priorities for this last week before she takes the SAT on Saturday."
"Looked over math and chemistry homework, working on geometry and reaction charts. Reviewed entire set of test taking strategies for upcoming SAT on Saturday. Gave the student a set of notes to study and practiced grammar rules."
"Tonight we did a practice exam for both the E and M portion of the SAT II Biology. I asked the student to read his prep book's sections on these topics and we will go over them in the following sessions."
