Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went through the student's review packet on triangle proofs for her geometry test tomorrow. The student has a solid grasp on the material, including different theorems and postulates, but I had to remind her occasionally to include the 'definition step' for a word that was given as part of the problem. Proofs are very picky that way; I had to remind her to slow down her brain, as proofs are very step-by-step and she is used to jumping to the answer."
"We did more review sheets to review for his test on Monday. We worked on finding sides of right triangles when given one angle and one side, with trig functions. He was having trouble last week with this, but after we went over a number of problems and some tricks to remember, he was doing the problems perfectly. We also did some problems with the altitude of a triangle, and I suggested that he memorize the equations having to do with the altitude. He memorized two out of three, but we had used the third one quite a bit in the session so I recommended he memorize it. We also did word problems, working on drawing the correct diagram and then solving with the tricks we had gone over earlier."
"Today was our first session, so I asked some questions about his performance in the class so far. The first part of the class was covering 10.1-10.3, areas of various shapes. The student has a quiz over these sections tomorrow. He was quick to learn and apply the material but needed to review the equations and several more examples on his own before the quiz. We also review his last test, which he received a 37 on. He has a cumulative exam next Tuesday that could replace his lowest test grade, so I recommended an extra session before that exam."
"We went over the student's homework involving circles. We did the chapter review and went over each of the theorems previously presented in the chapter, then worked through the assigned homework. We covered chords, secant and tangent lines, and inscribed shapes. We then briefly went over the student's recent chemistry material involving redox reactions. We briefly went over how to identify a redox reaction and how to tell oxidation from reduction. Overall, the student seemed to understand the material very well."
"Covered Chapter 10: Properties of Circles; Sect. 10.1: Use Properties of Tangents; Sect. 10.2: Find Arc Measures; Sect. 10.3: Apply Properties of Chords; Sect. 10.4: Use Inscribed Angles and Polygons; Sect. 10.5: Apply Other Angle Relationships in Circles; Sect. 10.6: Find Segment Length in Circles; Did Chapter 10 Chapter Test problems #1 - #19"
"We worked on two worksheets. The first worksheet was about finding the lengths of special 30-60-90 and 45-45-90 triangles. The second worksheet dealt with trigonometry problems that involved the use of trigonometric functions and the formulas of special right triangles (30-60-90). The student solved the problems with no major issues."
