"We worked on a Language Arts assignment doing character identification for Henry V and Comedy of Errors. We talked about correcting grammar and researching the characters. We also worked on a worksheet/guided reading about the Spanish-American War. We discussed strategies on where to find the information in the textbook."
"Today we read the next chapter in Of Mice and Men. We discussed what was going on in the chapter and I encouraged the student to think analytically and critically about what we read. We also worked on studying for the upcoming ACT test. He read a passage and answered the corresponding questions. My purpose was to assess his strengths and weaknesses with the standardized testing passage-based reading."
"The student and I worked on doing some old assignments she could turn in for extra credit before her grades got turned in this trimester. We worked on writing out thoughts before writing paragraphs and answers, so the student could learn a process of gathering evidence for her central idea before she starts writing. I think this is beneficial because it helps her digest the information rather than just writing a quick response. We also talked about who to choose quote for textual evidence. The student has been struggling with picking the best quotes, and while she knows why she wants to use the evidence, she often picks a sentence or quote that doesn't aid her answer. We talked about how to choose textual evidence better and how she could find ways of doing this herself."
"The student mentioned she didn't have any homework this week including reading or writing summaries. She was able to find a list of word study words in her book bag. We went ahead and wrote and read the words for practice. We worked on reading comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary work. We also worked on using context clues to help us figure out the definition of a word she was unsure of. She did a good job with going back into the story and proving her answers."
"The student needed help understanding the math word problems to figure out what they were asking, so I helped her with that."
"The student powered through some of his homework this afternoon, getting through social studies and math. He quickly moved onto his assignments that he wanted to work on."
