Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed areas (triangle, square, parallelogram) and worked out math problems that she was unsure of for her test tomorrow. I suggested the strategy that she write her formulas on index cards with a diagram/and or sample problem."
"The student and I reviewed for his Chapter 3 test. We went over fractions, addition and subtraction with like and unlike denominators, mixed number addition and subtraction, and comparing fractions by getting them into the same denominator first. We went over many word problems like this as well. I want the student to slow down and really think about what the problem is asking him so that he comes up with the correct response. When he rushes, all his work is correct, but he doesn't answer the correct question."
"The student and I reviewed her homework, correcting the answers that were wrong. We also went through her workbook, discussing calculating perimeter, area, and volume. She did incredibly well."
"The student and I reviewed her math homework, which was multiplying fractions by a whole number. She did quite well and appears to understand what she is doing. Then, she asked to be timed on her multiplication facts, since she knows she struggles with that. We did 3 one-minute tests. She is now using her fingers less and is appearing more confident. We ended the session by playing money bingo. Counting coins is getting a little easier. Overall, she was a very eager, happy participant."
"The student and I reviewed her quiz from school (she got an 88%), and reviewed her homework. She has started a new unit on data and tables and seems very comfortable with it. We went through one round with all her flashcards, reviewed money, compared money amounts, added and subtracted money, discussed how this was basically adding and subtracting decimals, and went through long division with two-digit divisors. I assigned homework for her to do before our next session."
"The student and I reviewed his math test, and he corrected all of the wrong answers. He was on the right track with most of the problems, but just forgot to complete the second steps. We then reviewed for the test on The Lightning Thief that he has tomorrow."
