Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, we focused on some worksheets covering special right triangles. I helped the student grasp 30-60-90 and 45-45-90 right triangles. He quickly understood the process, and we spent most of the session working on the worksheets."
"In this session, we worked on AND/OR inequalities and absolute values, including graphing on a number line. The student was doing quite well; he had some difficulty working with compound inequalities, but he quickly got the hang of it. Treating a compound inequality as a regular inequality with three sides instead of two was the main skill we worked on; we also went over what an invalid answer looks like (e.g., an AND situation where the two sets have no overlap). His ability to solve equations and inequalities continues to improve and is pretty solid at this point. He's doing very well with the current material."
"In today's session, Student 1 and I went over his math homework, as he didn't feel completely confident that he could answer the problems on his own. We worked through them together, and I sent him a practice test to take on his own time before his real test. He seemed much more comfortable after finishing the assignment. We touched on his biology work and intend on going more in depth at our next session. Student 2 and I went over her math homework, as she is just stepping into the world of factoring. She is a fast learner! She has also asked that we work on some other subjects next week since she has a couple of exams to take next Tuesday before the break."
"In today's session, we reviewed the student's quiz, and we went over the test review that the teacher assigned for the upcoming test. There were only a couple questions on the quiz that she did not understand; her grade reflected only minor mathematical errors (i.e., forgetting a negative sign and not taking out the GCF in her final answer). The test review was a bit complicated, but we were able to complete it and made small notes on what to remember when solving certain problems (i.e., the order of signs in difference of cubes and distributing the exponent to each term when terms are inside parentheses). I told her to pick and complete random questions of every classwork and homework assignment leading up to the review. We'll review her questions over the next session."
"In today's session, we worked on some questions to review for the Algebra 1 end of course exam. The student made an excellent attempt at answering the questions. He is very quick at learning new concepts. He needs to work on combining like terms and solving multistep problems. At the end of today's session, he scored 100 percent on a quiz on identifying slope from the slope intercept equation."
"It was all about chemistry in this session. The student and I worked on naming compounds. She has had some difficulty taking notes in this class, as the teacher moves pretty fast, so we went over her notes and worked through some problems. She did great with the content, and further practice will only help."
