Session Summaries by Statistics Tutors

Statistics Tutoring review by Orkhan in Olathe, KS
I went over the math final with the student. The test covered Systems of Equations, Point Slope Equations, Standard Format Equations, Addition and Subtraction of Polynomials, Word Problems and Solutions to Equations. While there were a couple of questions she did not know, it was mostly stress that got to her. I went over the actual concepts that the questions she did not understand cover and she got a better understanding of the material.

The session began with the student and I preparing for a midterm that will take place this week. We reviewed the customary and metric measurement systems. She completed practice worksheets and we worked together to convert measurements. She then practiced identifying the associative, distributive, and commutative properties. Afterwards, we moved on to rate word problems and operations with integers. She reviewed a visual that showed equivalent measurements of gallons, pints, quarts, and cups. I left her a homework packet for the entire week with math, reading, writing, and vocabulary practice.

Statistics Tutoring review by Sarah in Olathe, KS
The students have a test tomorrow, so we did a lot of practice problems together. The test will be on operations of integers, so we focused on adding/subtracting/multiplying/dividing positive and negative numbers. Both of them are mostly comfortable with these types of problems, and the extra practice made them more confident. We also talked about order of operations, and I gave them problems that mixed multiplication and addition to make sure they understood which order to do the math in.

Today the student and I continued working on multiplication facts, multi digit multiplication problems and math word problems with critical thinking. He and I have started doing timed multiplication fact tests and will continue each session to chart his improvement with memorization. Next session we'll continue with our multiplication skills while introducing long division.

Statistics Tutoring review by Cedric in Olathe, KS
Material Covered: Statistics, Normal Distribution, Correlation and Causation We reviewed normal distribution and identifying how data is skewed working through problems. We covered the difference between correlation and causation. We devised techniques in graphing trendlines in scatterplots by hand to understand where the correlation variable originates. We also sub-divided correlation into positive, negative, and none by creating realistic examples outside of the problems given. Extra practice was given to follow through with creating stem and leaf plots from data given in chart form.
