Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent the first part of the session working on the student's science homework. She needed some prompts to pick out the relevant parts of the text to find similarities and differences, but after the first couple, she was much more independent. Her multiplication fluency improved, as did her performance with subtraction fluency and spelling. We are working on increasing her vocabulary, which was a challenging exercise for her. We also are starting division flash cards since she has a lot of difficulty with this which is impacting her school performance."
"We reviewed the questions the student got incorrect on her Chapter 11 test. We also worked on testing techniques and strategies for word problems. We worked on estimating fractions and then adding or subtracting them. We worked on more word problems and reviewed math vocabulary. She expressed that she finally understood the concept of estimating fractions, and she was able to complete the worksheet independently."
"Today we reviewed Spanish for the student's upcoming test. She can remember a written word and translate it, but she has more trouble off the page--it is easier for her to translate the written word "zapatos" than it is for her to pronounce it and point to her shoes. I think the key here is going to be practice and repetition--a little bit of both reading and speaking every day! I'll particularly work with her on speaking and listening, to help her overcome some of the differences between Spanish and English spelling."
"I reviewed the five sentence summary that the student wrote for her daily reading log. We then spent the rest of the time working on a test review that is due Thursday for an upcoming test. We completed almost all of the review during our session."
"Today I worked with Student 1, and he had quite a bit of homework to complete. He had started math before I arrived. We reviewed the other problems, and I assisted him in completing the rest. We then moved on to spelling words and their perspective definitions, and then we made sentences (into a paragraph) using all of his spelling words for the week. Lastly, we moved on to correcting the problems he got incorrect on his social studies test. We corrected them together, and we were done for the night! I also convinced Student 2 to complete a 10 pointer in her homework tasks tonight. She also completed some 5 pointers, and I assisted her with spelling and sentences. Another great night!"
"We reviewed math homework, and I looked over a reading packet the student hadn't had time to finish at school."
