Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed the student's study guide for "A Christmas Carol." We made flashcards for each character. We also discussed the change in character over the course of the story, symbolism in the story, and vocabulary. The student was attentive and engaged throughout the session."
"The student told me about the reading she had done over the holidays. We reviewed the phonic blends we worked on at our last session. We worked on the next set of phonic blends. We drilled her on the list of 7th grade vocabulary to see how many she already knows, and she read an Aesop's fable noting the moral of the story."
"We went over his social studies homework. Later, we reviewed 7th grade spelling words. We later read articles from ESPN; he seems to get excited reading sports. We used this to look for comprehension and fluency. He was a lot more fluid when reading sports texts."
"The student is doing a great job reading. We worked through a lesson and reviewed the rules that he had learned much earlier. There were a few that he needed to work on, but he was able to figure out all of the ones I presented! When reading his Magic Tree House Merlin Mission book, he struggled with the name Aristotle and Philip, but he figured out honored, haggle, silenced, resume, and discussed. Excellent!"
"The student is doing much better with his vocabulary. Having him write both the definition and a definition that makes sense to him has been very beneficial. We started yesterday's session starting off with a quick vocabulary test, and then we added ten new flashcards. We finished up the session with a reading from his book, and he was assigned to finish the chapter before Thursday."
"The student is earning solid grades this semester. She recently completed an essay on "The Great Gatsby" which we edited, and, at this session, we discussed at length her current project, on "In Cold Blood." Her final for this semester will be based on this book, and we started discussion and prep for an expected quiz. We also researched Capote and the subject matter, which will be helpful when she receives the final essay topic."
