Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had been absent from class on Monday when the class learned trigonometry, so we reviewed that. We worked on problems involving the 6 trig functions, radians vs. degrees, as well as a basic review of cross multiplication and fraction multiplication."
"Today we went over the student's review for her quiz tomorrow on probability. She did great and knew the steps/concepts. We finished with another review of the formulas. More practice is needed, but she's doing much better!"
"In Algebra we covered the beginning of log functions in order to determine n in an equation, such as 49^x=7^x^2-15. In anatomy, we reviewed respiration, what is involved in it, and how it occurs in the body."
"During today's session we worked on Chapter 4 of the student's textbook. Specifically we worked on section 4.1 and 4.2 regarding substitution and linear combinations to solve for either X or Y initially, then plugging in one variable into a second equation to then solve for both variables. We worked through normal questions and word problems applying his knowledge of graphing the equation on a XY axis."
"The student has her final in 3 days, so we spent the session reviewing coursework that she was having a hard time with. Overall, I was happy to have worked with her and I'm glad her grades have improved from a D to B!"
"I watched as the student did another section of homework problems related to radicals and gave advice where needed. He solved most of the problems on his own, but had a few questions when factoring and certain square numbers were involved."
"We began reviewing for the student's final exam. we covered exponents, graphing linear equations, simplifying expressions, and writing equations of lines. She would like to focus on simplifying expressions next time."
"Today, the student and I continued to work on rational functions. We focused mainly on graphing the square root of x and the cube root of x. We then went over the different ways to manipulate the graph by multiplying or adding numbers to see how it affected the graph. We also discussed finding the inverse of functions and graphing inverses. When we had finished the algebra packet, we worked on chemistry. We focused this time on discussion of the different states and properties of those states. We began finding the heat energy needed to raise the temperature and change the state of different substances. We will continue to look at this next week, focusing mainly on the math."
"The student and I hadn't met in a while and had plenty of algebra material to cover. We first went over the entire chapter on exponents. We went over all of the rules of exponents. She had a chapter review that we went over together which she would be tested on. We next went over factoring. We focused mostly on factoring monomials. She performed extremely well and needed very little assistance. She told me that she felt very prepared for her test."
"The student and I covered physics and Algebra. Specifically we worked on factoring of rational expressions and canceling out relevant terms. We also briefly looked at some kinematics problems from the most recent test that he took."
"The student and I worked on calculating percent increases and percent decreases. We also explored some ways to make easy mental calculations, as well as how to handle multiple percentage decreases and to work backwards."
"We worked on physics problems this session. The problems were related to electricity, magnetism, and the right hand rule. The student struggled with applying the right hand rule, but showed major improvements in that area by the end."
