Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I covered topics from solid geometry today with the help of the Pythagorean Theorem. As this was my first session with the student, she took time to get comfortable, but eventually gained confidence in addressing the practice problems. She is an intelligent student, but is not able to work independently. In future, my focus will be to elevate her confidence level and clear her basic concepts so that she can work on her own. I have given her four practice questions next session."
"I know that the student understands the concepts, but she still needs a bit of work knowing when to use what equation. The homework was about circles and angles created by lines associated with the circles. We will continue to address this in future sessions."
"We covered the Pythagorean Theorem, areas of triangles, circles, rectangles, volumes and surface areas of solids such as pyramids, cones, spheres, and cylinders, trigonometry (finding the angles of right triangles given two sides), and we started on finding the measure of an angle whose sides are the tangents of the same circle, given the measures of the major and minor arcs. We will continue on Thursday."
"The student was having some trouble with converting between radians and degrees as well as finding arc lengths. We went back over the lessons and I was able to re-explain those concepts to him and he did pretty well with the practice problems. His biggest issue right now is remembering formulas. Up until this point he has been able to get away with just memorizing the few simple formulas that he needs, but this unit has much more complicated formulas. He needs to write all the formulas down in one place so that he can reference them when he gets to a problem that he is stuck on. I had him go back through the beginning of each lesson and find these formulas so he can get started on building a study sheet for himself going forward into the next test."
"The student had a great session. We worked on a review EOC, and in 90 minutes, we got through 31-32 questions. She was able to determine the best way to obtain the required answer, and when she was unsure, she was able to answer with directed prompts and/or a review of the specific topic."
"Today the students and I studied for their upcoming test on coordinate geometry and transformations. They both seemed to have a good grasp of most concepts, although they both requested extra practice with reflecting points over oblique lines. Most of our time was spent drilling through these types of problems, and they both seemed to improve by the end of the session. The rest of the time, we looked through various examples, and they both seemed to have a good grasp of every other concept."
