Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"For this preliminary meeting the student's parents and I discussed where they feel he is struggling, areas where improvement is needed, and what they wish to get out of the tutoring process. We also talked about what he is doing in school, the testing, and the length/content of the sessions. General grammar, parts of speech, fluency, details/elaboration and "going above and beyond the basic scope of assignments" were all areas that I will focus on during our sessions."
"The student and I reviewed the work we did on Tuesday. Derivative of power functions, ln(x), and inverse trigonometric functions were discussed and practiced. I then created complex problems that included all of the above to practice utilizing chain rule. The student grew in confidence as he practiced, gaining more familiarity with a process that he can use to work on every problem."
"I started this session with the student by helping him make flashcards for his current vocabulary. We then went over those flashcards several times and came up with helpful ways for him to remember the vocabulary words. He showed excellent progress in his memorization and understanding of these vocabulary words. We then worked on his ability to hold a conversation in Spanish. We randomly picked pictures from his book and I then asked him several questions about that picture in Spanish and had him respond and elaborate in Spanish. He became increasingly comfortable with responding as our session went on and he showed an increased ability to understand the questions I was asking him."
"We began our session with a quick quiz over the roots he was assigned to memorize. He knew most of them, but when we worked through synonym problems, he did not know them well enough to apply the meaning of the roots. We will continue to review those."
"We covered the statistics section and reviewed the first section of sample math problems. They had difficulty with thinking about their approach to the problems, sometimes rushing into an ineffective method. I assigned another practice exam for the weekend."
"I introduced the imperative tense today. We also practiced conjugating verbs and began a listening exercise."
