"Corrected a few problems from the geometry section Practiced and discussed geometry theories and how to apply them to the problems. Practiced how to structure an essay. Rewriting sentences and brainstorming using personal experiences, historical events and random information. In the upcoming sessions he is going to work on memorizing math formulas."
"We began our session by working on getting the student a bit more organized. He then mentioned that he had been having trouble with his vocabulary this year, so we spent some time going over that. Finally, we finished up with some math work. I reinforced the need to write down every step of the math problem and we also went over the order of operations."
"Today I administered a mock SAT reading session test for the student out of her SAT prep book. Her reading comprehension is strong."
"The student and I went over the first half of a math section, going over the harder and more trig-like problems. We went over problems that had to find area, functions, factoring, etc. She was pretty comfortable with plugging numbers in, but the wordy ones she struggled a little with, so we went over those and she wrote down steps for herself so that she can refer back to those later. I also advised her to memorize area formulas, and any other formulas that are helpful on her formula sheet given to her last week. We proceeded to go over the reading section, 2 long passages. She did better when she worked the first couple of questions and the last couple and saved the middle questions until the end. That way she didn't forget what the passage was saying. I assigned her math problems and assigned her a passage to complete along with 10 questions."
"We focused on logical reasoning, and in particular on point-in-issue questions. The student had a positive and hopeful attitude despite struggling with the material. We finished up with a plan for attacking reading comprehension questions and practicing before the test, which is in about 12 days."
