Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed for her final exam. We went through material from each of 5 chapters on the exam. We went through examples and the student asked questions. We also talked about strategies for test taking. She has great reasoning skills, so we worked on strategies for taking multiple choice tests."
"The student and I spent the hour going over trig identity problems, and we also went over proofs for these formulas. The student is becoming much more confident in her math skills, and she is doing a great job."
"Biology: went over recent quiz and terms (nitrogen cycle, different level of consumers, differences between ecosystem and habitat) Math: Covered chain rule (method of checking the derivative). Completed problems from text applying the chain rule."
"The student and I looked over different types of writing exercises today. He seemed pretty attentive, and I tried to get more ideas flowing from him, through a prompt about things he remembers/doesn't remember (personal narrative), as well as brainstorming a list of people in his life and what makes them unique. The last section, I focused on having him draft out his life's accomplishments, highlights, plans after school and later on throughout life (I told him to imagine a reporter writing a short article about him in the paper)."
"The student and I met for the first time. His engineering book takes a bit of a different approach. We went back to the beginning of electrostatics, and we got through 2 chapters of homework."
"The student and I discussed The Great Depression, specifically the Harding, Coolidge, Hoover, and FDR presidencies, and how each of their administrations contributed to the Depression. She had a short answer quiz on this material, so we also discussed political and economic themes of the time period, trends and policies of each administration, and the general social climate following Black Tuesday."
