Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During our session, the student and I finished his writing assignment: distance and midpoint formula. We also worked on the introduction to slope chapter. After that, he finished his bio-journal assignment for lesson 4, which completed his lesson 4 assignments."
"The student primarily wants help with geometry. She expressed that her biggest problem is learning how to approach problems that aren't presented to her in the way that she's used to. She has a firm grasp on memorizing the formulas and even understanding certain concepts. She just has trouble applying her knowledge to questions that look different than how she learned it. We went over some of her practice exams to see what kind of mistakes she was making in the actual math. The topics varied from area/perimeter of shapes, graphing transformations, trig functions and word problems which require diagram set-up. Again, she knew all the formulas very well, she seemed to have a few instances where she either flipped a number/concept or did not know how to initially set up the equation and go from there. I stressed the importance of doing several practice problems so that she could be exposed to more variety which could help with her being more comfortable in tackling unfamiliar questions. We will work on this through our sessions. The student is definitely bright, and it looks like she is somewhere in the A/B range and would like to get the A."
"The student and I reviewed a practice packet covering volume of spheres, cones, cylinders, prisms, and pyramids, in preparation for his upcoming test."
"This session was a chapter review covering distance and midpoint formulas, points, lines, planes, and angle relationships. Overall, the student did well with the subject matter. There was some difficulty with solving problems that had algebraic relationships, but we were able to push through the obstacles to solve the problems."
"The student and I continued our practice with proofs, radicals, and other material. I will be sending him an email with a link to a website where he can do more practice problems."
"We went over coordinate geometry. This involved graphing and solving for the line equation from points."
