Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"*Reviewed Chapter 6, 7, and 11 for an Exam on #1 Concepts of thermochemistry, quantum theory, and solutions chemistry. *We reviewed basic equations for all topics and wrote down the important equations that he should write on his notecards and commit to memory."
"The student and I covered Lewis-dot diagrams (this session was actually over chemistry, not geometry). We covered a variety of different kinds of problems and discussed strategies for solving them. The student definitely improved over the course of the session and was able to correctly identify and solve the different scenarios independently by the end. She has a quiz this week over the material and will look at scheduling her next session next week."
"We did a review session today so we went over solubility reactions with solubility constant, acid/ base reaction, redox reactions, thermodynamics and kinetics. The student's attitude was great. She was focused and knew exactly what she wanted to go over and what she didn't understand. She needed help the most with solubility and how to set up the problems. She took a quiz last week on acid/ base equilibrium and got a 45/50 but she thought she did a lot worse so she was very happy."
"We covered kinetics, specifically determining rate laws using the method of initial rates, overall orders of reactions, how to solve for the rate constants, and finally the equation for first order reactions used to determine rate constants by plotting the natural log of initial concentration over final concentration vs time making the rate constant the slope of the line. We will continue next week with rate laws and the Arrhenius equation."
"We covered le Chatelier's principle and how different changes in temperature, pressure, and concentration affect the equilibrium of a reaction. We reviewed how to utilize ICE tables and their relationship to pressure, concentration, and equilibrium constants."
"We covered Lewis structures, formal charge calculations, and touched on resonance structures. He also worked on several problems related to these topics upon my request. His progress was noticeable by the end of the session although he recognizes the need for further practice in preparing for next week's test, which he will study before taking it."
