Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I had another great session this week! We worked in her practice math test book and also did some practice with division. For reading, she read a few chapters from her Ivan book, and then I read a chapter of Matilda to her and asked some comprehension questions. She is still having some difficulty with feeling like she needs to rush, and I noticed that I needed to stop her quite a bit to make sure that she knew what was going on! Hopefully this feeling of needing to speed through books will come to an end soon because I think she will enjoy the books so much more if she understands them! We will definitely work on this in our coming sessions."
"The student and I met for another math session and started with a review of subtraction facts. She was able to attribute fact family information to the number sentences with 90% accuracy. We completed a series of number fluency games, and she did well! We ended our session with a few minutes discussion about rounding and estimating sums. We will start our next session with more information about that and practice with those concepts!"
"The student and I practiced identifying and counting coins. She has been working hard to remember which coins hold what value, so I had her write down the names of each of the coins and their values. We also skip counted using coins as counters, and spent a bit of time ordering numbers."
"The student and I practiced multiplication facts with a few different card games. His fluency is beginning to improve greatly. We also worked on a few unit rate problems, and he has mastered that concept. He also mentioned that his grade in math has improved by 10%, taking it from a C to a B. He continues to show progress with each session. He has such a positive attitude towards everything we work on."
"The student and I practiced subtraction facts thru 12's using flash cards. Then, she completed a 3-digit subtraction worksheet. We finished with a rounding worksheet rounding to the 10's, 100's, and 1000's."
"The student and I read at the beginning of our session. She was much more alert. We read level I fiction and level H nonfiction. These levels seem to be appropriate for her. We also worked on word study homework and organizing nouns. In her writing, I continue to focus on only writing lower case letters in the middle and end of words."
