How can a Math tutor help you?

Mathematics is one of the subjects central to everyday life - without it, you would be unable to pay for coffee or bake a cake. Math is somehow involved in every career, from construction and engineering to science and writing. While some people use barely anything above the basic operations of arithmetic, many careers require upper level math nearly every day. No matter what industry you plan to go into, it is important to have a strong math background. To build this, a student has to understand the basics of a topic before moving up into higher-level academics. Varsity Tutors may help you connect with an independent tutor in Spokane, WA, who may assist your student in understanding math.

Find an expert math tutor in Spokane, WA, today by contacting Varsity Tutors' educational directors. Our directors take into account your child's comfort level with the material, personality, and favored learning style when selecting the perfect tutor for your needs. The selected tutor may then run some simple diagnostics, discovering what your child struggles with most and any potential educational gaps that may be causing problems now. From there, your child's tutor may create a personalized learning plan, tailored to their specific needs.

The student was studying for his upcoming AP test. We focused on free response questions. I worked with helping him set up the problem correctly, particularly identifying which level of derivative he was given. I also pushed him to justify his answer, as it is a required part of the answer. I also provided a check for his comprehension. Other than misunderstandings on whether he was given the original equation, first or second derivative of a function, he had a good understanding of how to solve the problem. He still needs some practice on differential equations, which was not covered explicitly in class.

We covered the material for his AP calculus test the following day, as well as some generic test advice and some broader conceptual tasks. One particular focus was doing the derivatives of inverse trig functions (and I showed him inverse hyperbolic trig too) by implicit differentiation, and this led to a similar discussion of trigonometric substitutions. We did several more review problems on his papers, with gentle corrections where they need to be -- but he seemed quite well-prepared, and I hope he does well.
