"This session, the student had a quiz to complete for his English class on an online platform. After about 10 minutes of work, I had him work on his math work. After math practice, he had a timeline history assignment to work on. He struggled a bit with the idea of creating a 'to scale historic timeline.' But he was able to grasp the concept and explain to me the difference between a 'to scale timeline' with equal intervals vs a timeline with random intervals. He is doing well so far in all his classes. My biggest concern is his Math. He's not struggling so much with the arithmetic as he is with some of the concepts that are from word problems. Today was a focused and efficient session, so I'm happy about that."
"This session, we worked on more engaging ways for the student to study for tests in Spanish, Scripture, and History. I had him practice and found websites for him that allowed him to enter in the terms/answers onto a website that inputs those terms into a study game. Having to enter the terms will help him study just as much as playing the games himself, but we also found some pre-made quizzes he can work from as well. We also went over how to best use his Spanish textbook and how to study in ways that are similar to the ways he'll be tested."
"This tutoring session was focused on the subject of Physics as well as Study Skills and Organization. We specifically covered the concepts of Newton's Laws of Motion, Free-Body Diagrams, and inclined plane physics. We went over several practice problems in preparation of a test the student had the next day. He is skilled at doing problems, yet struggles with organization. I advised him to make a table of known and unknown values to better help understand the path he should take as well as show his reasoning steps. He seems generally uninterested in these types of exercises, even though he is good at them."
"This was our first lesson. We reviewed the student's geometry homework. He showed me what he is studying in biology class. We also did a short writing piece. He is very quick and interested in working together. We agreed to have him text me topics he is covering in school prior to our lessons. I will also bring some more advanced material for him to read."
"This was our first session. We started by discussing where the student is having some trouble, and then generally getting to know each other. The rest of the time was spent going over what type of homework each teacher assigns, and then doing some of said homework."
"This was the original session, set up at a different time because the calendar was being funky. Today we talked through strategies for how to prep for the student's upcoming tests in poli sci and art history. In poli sci, we identified content that would work well with flashcards, and then talked through content that dealt with bigger ideas and how to tackle that. We discussed different types of federalism, and this seemed like an awesome way for him to organize and clarify his understanding of the topic. Good luck!!"
