Concepts covered were: the conjugation of verbs : Ser, Estar, Tener. Explanation about how to respond to questions related to class schedules. Rules for accentuation of words. The student is a dedicated student; he is very intelligent. We reviewed the online material that he uses for school, and I had the chance to correct some few mispronunciation of his Spanish words.

Spanish Tutoring review by Christopher in Akron, OH
We reviewed how to form formal and informal commands for regular verbs, as well as commands for some irregular verbs. Most of the session was directed toward translation exercises that applied present tense, preterite tense, and commands. We also went through how to translate "this," "these," "that," and "those," as well as how the various senses of the word "that" have different translations. For example, the demonstrative adjective "that" (e.g. that apple) uses ese/a whereas the relative pronoun "that" uses que (e.g. I want the car that is red). The student was having some trouble with translation of prepositional phrases. We went through how the preposition "a" is a good preposition to guess if you can't remember what the actual idiomatic phrase is.

Spanish Tutoring review by Eric in Akron, OH
The student said upcoming Spanish assessments were his highest priority, so we spent the session reviewing vocabulary and time reading. It was mostly drill, going back and forth first transcribing and translating the Spanish side of the list as I read it to him. Identifying the items he had the most trouble with, we focused on those while continuing to review the rest, moving to my giving the English and him producing the Spanish. At this point, we also put these phrases into complete sentences to practice the grammar as well. The student was left with a few terms he knows he'll need to keep reviewing, but he was definitely doing better with the whole list by the end and now has a few tips from me to remember some of the words [e.g. tocar la guitarra means to play the guitar but literally means to touch the guitar and tocar sounds/ looks like touch]. We also spent a little time improving accent, reading and spelling, particularly qu- vs. c-, accents and tildes, and vowel sounds.

Spanish Tutoring review by Michael in Akron, OH
5:30 - 6:30 Student 1 We first did a grade check, where most of his grades were A's and B's. We then worked on his weekly Spanish packet that dealt with possessive pronouns, adjectives, and countries of origin. He is good at translating from Spanish to English. We then worked on a study guide for a History test that he had to make up on the Constitution and Constitutional Convention. We talked about the Preamble, the 7 Articles, and the first 10 Amendments. We also talked about the 3 branches of government. 6:30 - 7:30 Student 2 We first did a grade check, and all grades were A's. We then went over her math work for the week, and we went through a few of her math questions that she had. We then started working on flashcards dealing with the Roman Empire and its decline, the rise of the Byzantine Empire, the rise of Christianity, and the early dynasties in China. She was quick to understand the points. She took notes and filled out her note cards throughout our session. Both students are quick to do what is asked of them and are quick learners.
