Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We continued working on the science section. We practiced more with data table interpretations, and the student started marking patterns on the data tables to use as a reference source for the questions. We also talked about how some answer choices are made up of two parts, and that if one part is incorrect, then the answer choice needs to be eliminated."
"The student has already taken the ACT twice, so she is familiar with the format and sections of the test. Last year she scored a 23, and the previous year she received an 18. Her ultimate goal is to achieve a score around 30. Based on her diagnostic tests, math is the area where she needs the most work, so we spent our first session doing a more detailed math diagnostic. She currently works with a math tutor once a week, so she will be getting some extra practice there as well. I asked her to do the sample sections from chapter 3 of her book for next time."
"The student is in good shape for the assessment. We reviewed the reading, English, and math sections of a full practice exam that he took. We also graded the Science section. He scored a 31 Composite (27 English, 33 math, 35 reading, 30 science). We went over reading strategies again. He did really well with this practice exam, but split the section up with 9 minutes per passage. From now on he will do it all in one sitting so that we can assess if this great score was a result of splitting it up. Content-wise, the reading section should still be improving as well. He learned what type of questions there are and how to approach them. redundancy/wordiness. He did really well on the Math Test. I assigned another full practice exam. He will also let me know if he has the Writing Test."
