Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student completed several grammar studies online. He read a science article from the "Time for Kids" reading program about the classification of the planet Pluto. He continued writing his autobiographical sketch. We also read together from the book "On Writing.""
"The student had more work with truth tables. We wrote out additional notes to summarize the different statements and true/false results. In the last section when the statements were based on situations instead of symbols, she commented that it was easier. Often, the word based problems are what baffles students, yet this added step that is considered more difficult is helping her fit the pieces together. Then, we started assignments on percentages and simple interest. She feels quite confident with these topics."
"The student had some assignments in both math and science. For math, he had chapter review and section worksheets, and for science, he had a couple of worksheets on the scientific method. Most of the math went well, but we had to review quadrants on the coordinate plane; he was able to remember which one was which before he finished his last worksheet. The science worksheets were mainly defining and identifying sections of the scientific method. I gave examples so he would understand how to tell which example was which, and later, he was able to put the definition of each section in his own words."
"The student is eager for the year to begin. She enthusiastically worked on a review of divisibility rules and an introduction to exponents."
"The student is showing a lot of progress in his reading. He is engaging with me more and interacting with me more often. We are having more of a conversation instead of having long silences. He takes initiative and answers problems without my direction. He is showing more interest in the material that we are studying."
"The student is working on simple multiplication again just to make sure he's mastered it. He also got ALL angles correct. I am very, very proud of this young man. He's got it when it comes to the verbal expression and written portions of our work together. We will be going over the metric system and how to convert double and triple digit numbers into the correct units during the next session. He has honestly been a pleasure to teach."
