Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed the subjunctive tense from last session and began working with the imperfect subjunctive tense. We ended with a quick look at the conditional tense. She has caught onto all three of these difficult tenses well. This evening we will complete a practice test."
"Today we worked mostly on writing and the essay. She mentioned that her lowest score on the PSAT was in the writing section, so we focused on those sections today. We also talked about essay strategy. Overall, she did pretty well on the writing sections that were timed during the session - she only missed a couple questions in each section. For the essay, I emphasized the importance of picking a side and sticking to it based on the prompt. She tended to want to write a thesis that kept her options open or was a little vague, so we practiced rewriting thesis statements for some essays she has already done. Her homework is to work through the TPR essay section, using a new thesis statement that we worked on during the session, as well as do a math section to stay fresh on these topics. She continues to do well on the math section - only misses 1 or 2 in a section."
"Today, we ran through a reading section, focusing on active reading. She's learning how to take strong notes quickly. We also ran some vocabulary -- she's got a good word base to start from, and uses the strategies we've discussed well. Finally, we worked through a math section, identifying areas in need of review."
