Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on selecting a new book for the student and continued reading aloud in both girls' books, asking questions throughout and highlighting new vocabulary."
"We reviewed math homework as requested by the student. We also reviewed his social studies homework. He completed reading comprehension worksheets brought by the tutor."
"We covered the student's reading and writing homework vocabulary. We then went through what he needs to know for science."
"The students were excited by a recent trip to the library--and the slew of books they picked up there. Both wanted to read "Finding Dory" and "The Good Dinosaur" to me. They had seen Finding Dory the previous day in theaters and were eager to show me their favorite characters in the cast section in the back. In addition to our typical workbook work, we played "Volcano" (another variation on Hangman). Both were excited to stump me with tricky phrases. We had a fun time throughout the class!"
"The topics covered today were reading comprehension and math. The student started with a word problem worksheet and she showed improvement in understanding word problems. She read two chapters from "It's Not the End of the World." She gave a brief summary. She also read a story about unicorns and answered multiple-choice and short answer questions. The word "traditional" was in the article and she had challenges with the ending. On whiteboards, the student wrote words that she knows that end in "al" (refusal, professional, etc.). To review the parts of speech, the student went online to play the Parts of Speech game. After the game, I had her write sentences and identify the subject, verb, adjectives, pronouns and prepositions. She is showing a better understanding of the parts of speech."
"This afternoon, the student and I continued to read 'Harry Potter 5.' We are getting closer and closer to the middle of the book, past 240 pages by the end of today. I am very pleased with his progress and the reading speed that he has picked up over the last several months."
