Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I covered DNA and chromosomes, all of which are materials he will be tested on tomorrow. We did a test review and he was pretty confident. I suggested that he continue on with the review throughout the day get a good night's rest in order to score well on his exam."
"The student completed her online microscope assignment. The assignment involved an online simulation that allowed the student to practice loading a slide onto a microscope, focusing it, and using the different magnifications to look at specimens. This was good practice for getting comfortable with the different parts of a microscope. She completed the assignment and answered the associated questions."
"Our session today was spent preparing for the student's genetics test this coming Thursday. The aspect she was most struggling with was Punnett squares: how to use them, what information we need to set them up, what information they tell us about the offspring, etc. In this discussion we went over the concepts of genotype and phenotype, homozygous and heterozygous, the principle of dominance, codominance, and incomplete dominance. After doing a number of practice problems with Punnett squares, we talked about some basic concepts of DNA, inheritance, and fertilization. We briefly discussed the process of meiosis."
