Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today was my first session with the student. We reviewed her first stats exam in preparation for her upcoming final. We focused on sampling design, going over the differences between simple random, stratified random, systematic, and cluster sample designs. We also discussed the difference between descriptive and inferential stats. We reviewed finding proportions in a sample. Overall, the student seemed to have a good grasp of the material."
"We continued working on the student's final project. He tweaked the histogram that he had and reworded most of his interpretations of his findings. We then discussed what he wants to do to wrap up his project and planned a tutoring session for next week."
"We cover chi-square testing and alternatives (Fisher's exact method) to testing proportions when chi-square assumptions are not met. Using results generated from a database of battery crimes in a certain month, we outlined hypotheses, testing of hypotheses, results, and discussion sections. These sections were part of a report required to complete a group project."
"We covered a practice homework quiz that the student's teacher had given her online. We went over stratified sampling, block sampling design, placebo effect, double-blind studies, explanatory and response variables, confounding variables, matched-pair designs, and completely randomized sampling. The student was a very quick learner and was striving for an understanding of the topic/material, not just getting a good score. She was fun to work with and very understanding and patient!"
"We covered a variety of hypothesis testing scenarios such as testing differences of proportions, differences of means, t-tests, and confidence intervals. There still remain some clarifications needed regarding these subjects, which we will probably go over next time."
"We covered assessment five, which covered the concepts of independent and matched t-tests, ANOVA, and hypothesis testing. We also went through SPSS programming and APA formatting of results. We have plans to meet again this Friday."
