Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent this session primarily covering the math and quantitative sections, but we also spent time on synonyms and selected reading passages. The student picked up all of the various algebraic techniques immediately, but appeared to struggle when faced with more complex vocabulary in the verbal section. From my perspective, he was focused and driven to succeed throughout the entirety of the session. For this meeting, I also made an effort to introduce all of the various terms that will make the geometry questions easier to complete efficiently. I also recommended that he continue to work on his vocab by taking a verbal practice test for homework. He retained the information that I displayed in our first session, so I can say that he is progressing already. We met for an hour on Sunday, so I tacked that session onto this hour long one."
"The student and I went over geometry, basic algebra, and fractions. In the basic math section of the prep test book, we did problems 1-10, and we will continue to do the rest of the problems. The student has really taken to simplifying and reducing certain expressions and factoring; her arithmetic skills are great, so often she can see many numbers and calculations at once. She began completing a diagnostic test and was able to do the problems correctly with minimal guidance. She will complete the test at our next session."
"We went through practice tests for the ISEE in reading and verbals, specifically vocabulary and reading comprehension. The student scored passing grades in the C to A range. I recommended that he continue to study both English and math, as well as general test-taking strategies. We are scheduled to meet once more during the week, Wednesday, before he takes the ISEE on Saturday. Beyond the exam there will be 3 additional sessions. I intend to focus on general mathematical and algebraic concepts, literacy and study habits, and techniques for developing a more advanced vocabulary, all of which will help him to succeed academically in the future."
