Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I had some excellent progress on Saturday. We spent the majority of our time on the English section, reviewing grammar and punctuation rules and how to edit writing to be clear and concise. After combing through a practice test and hitting items he missed, I was very pleased by his ability to immediately correct his missed questions. We did a timed exercise on one of the passages and his pacing was great for this section. Of the questions he missed only one and used his extra time effectively to check his work and correct one or two wrong responses. I am hoping that the English section will be one he has time left over to review his work. We finished out by working on some math. He is very skilled at solving simple functions without depending on a calculator or even writing things down. While I told him that writing out equations is never a bad idea to check your work, I am pleased that I don't have to convince him not to rely on his calculator -- a challenge for many other students. I am hoping to see a big improvement on his next practice test composite score. His work in our sessions has showed me that he knows what he's doing for the most part."
"Today was a good session. The student and I did the 1 for 1 method, back and forth, throughout the ACT math section. We alternated questions, solved them aloud, checked our answers, and corrected mistakes. We focused on how to model or set up the ACT style word problems and how to utilize the answer options to avoid time constraints and improve accuracy."
"Today, we focused on math. The student actually knew more content than she expected to on the ACT practice test. She has a solid foundation from which to work on strategies."
