Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, we went over logarithms problems practicing the log properties and introduced the change of base formula. After that, we went over trigonometry, practicing converting between angles and radians, introducing how these relate to angles to the unit circle in terms of principal angles. Then I introduced and showed how to memorize the 6 defined trig functions matching their triangle ratios."
"The student is reviewing for her exam. We recapped what we covered on kinematics and then did relative velocity and Newton's second law problems. She is an excellent student and really applies herself."
"The student started with doing a word matching game with vocabulary words. He is very quick to figure out the right definition of words in context and to accurately guess the meaning of new words. We then finished with some reading passages which he continues to excel at."
"Today the student worked on place value. I provided her with a place value chart to use as a reference. We also discussed expanded forms for numbers. She did very well using the chart for assistance. We plan to work on place value some more next week. She also did a practice reading sample for state testing, and answered the questions. I will be checking her answers and reviewing them with her next week. She completed most of the comprehension questions that I gave her last week for a chapter book she read. She had difficulty with questions that required more thought process, explanation and opinion. I advised her that these questions are not meant to trick her, but to get her to think more in depth about the story. For homework, she was given more comprehension questions for another chapter book. I think she will improve with reading comprehension with more thought provoking questions. Next week, she will complete another state testing reading sample."
"Today, I gave the student an assessment of his writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary, and basic 8th grade mathematics skills, all of which were related to 8th grade. What we found was that he will need an intensive enrichment program whereby he reads at least two paragraphs a day and gets into a steady habit of journaling in order to improve basal-level or basic grammatical and syntactical skills inherent to the writing process. I thoroughly enjoyed working with him today, and I look forward to working with him in the future!"
"Today, we went over kinematics for the student's exam tomorrow. We mainly covered how to use the general equations given some variables. Overall, it was a successful session and I believe she will do well on her exam tomorrow."
