Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I helped the student structure his laboratory conclusion, and we reviewed DNA replication so he can be prepared to retake a quiz. While he still requires some prompting to get the correct answer, he is doing significantly better, and was able to correctly answer just about every question I asked him. I am very pleased with his improvement, and think my tutoring is having a positive impact. I think meeting twice a week, and studying as we are now will be enough to help the student succeed in this class."
"We discussed information that has been covered since our last session. The student made a 70% on her vocabulary quiz. She is now covering chapter 13 and 14 for the next test. I texted her aunt last week and suggested that the student download and complete the test topics. We completed 3 sections of test topics with review. We are incorporating charts and pictures in our sessions to assist her with visual cues that will help her remember the content. I left 11 vocabulary words for her to complete for Friday's session."
"We went over her last test and discussed what she got wrong. She did well on the test overall getting an A-. We looked at her homework and talked about what she would write (she wanted to type up the answers on her computer). Then we reviewed mitosis and meiosis again. Finally I had her do some problems on body systems to determine what she needs help with. She needs help with endocrine and digestive systems."
"Today we started reviewing the student's study guide for a test that will be on Monday. We specifically covered energy in cells, chemical reactions, enzymes, and cellular respiration. We spent most of our time with me teaching him the material and him filling out the study guide along the way. I also supplied him with some supplemental images and diagrams on the whiteboard. We plan to meet again tomorrow to finish going through his study guide. In the meantime, he has a lot of flashcards to make tonight!"
"The student did well on his Environmental policy exam. He wanted to go over the population genetics that he was learning in his biology class. We went through the process of looking at genotype frequencies and allele frequencies. He has a practice set of questions that we will discuss when we next meet."
"For the student's upcoming exam on bacteria, protists, and viruses, I helped him to make a self-review PowerPoint to test himself on the material. By making review questions for protists and providing an example of how to document answers in the notes section of the PowerPoint, I showed him how to fill out the rest of the review questions on bacteria and viruses, which were provided by his teacher. This method of studying also seemed to helped him with spelling important terminology."
